Effective Treatment. Now Online.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, all appointments are now online. While this once-in-a-lifetime event requires us to isolate from each other, that doesn't mean your mental health should take a back seat. If you're interested in mental health treatment, know that online therapy is as effective as in-person treatment.

Your health insurer also covers teletherapy, so your out of pocket costs are no different than usual. And because geographical location is no longer a problem, I can see Vermont residents from all corners of the state.

Here's a few things you should know about teletherapy and how to get the most benefit from it:

  • I use VSee, an encrypted videoconference software meant for healthcare.

  • While you can use VSee on a phone, it is better if you're using a computer. If you must use your phone, please find a place to put your phone so you're hands free. People who hold their phones move them around and I can get motion sickness.

  • I use Apple AirPods to hear you better. I can also hear you better if you use headphones with a built in microphone. This helps to cut down on ambient noise like dogs barking, doors opening and closing and children playing in the background.

  • Sit back from the video a bit more than usual so more of you is in the video. People often communicate unconsciously in non-verbal ways. Since I can't see you bouncing your leg like I can in person, there are some behaviors I miss out on.

To make this process as seamless as possible, I offer online scheduling, online informed consent paperwork, and online treatment. Payment, if needed, is handled via an online credit card authorization through Square (including use of your HSA/HRA card).
